About JCRC-NY
The Jewish Community Relations Council of New York (JCRC-NY), a proud UJA-Federation of NY agency, serves as the primary community relations agency for the Jewish community in the metropolitan New York area. As an active force in New York civic and communal life, JCRC-NY operates as a central coordinating and resource body to: (1) Be a common table to cultivate understanding and joint action amongst diverse groups within the Jewish community; (2) Cultivate deeper relationships with the broader New York community to address critical issues and engender a shared society; (3) Ensure the security of the Jewish community in the face of rising antisemitism; and (4) Foster increased understanding and appreciation for the Jewish community’s relationship with Israel among diverse groups of New Yorkers.
The Celebrate Israel Parade, a project of JCRC-NY, is the largest public celebration of Israel in the world, taking place annually on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue. The Parade boasts 40,000 cheering marchers, tens of thousands of spectators, marching bands, musical performances and fabulous floats all showing pride in the rich cultural heritage and modern achievements of the State of Israel.
The Director of Sponsorships and Individual Giving will work directly with the Celebrate Israel Parade team and the JCRC-NY development team to procure floats, sponsorships and individual contributions for the 2022 Celebrate Israel Parade and other special events, and they will primarily manage major gifts, inclusive of, but not limited to individual giving under $10,000 and NextGen philanthropy.
This position reports to the Chief Development Officer and will work in collaboration with the Celebrate Israel Parade Director and must be based in the New York metropolitan area.
Responsibilities include:
Celebrate Israel Parade
a. Solicit and secure institutional sponsors and donors for the 2022 Celebrate Israel Parade
b. Work in partnership with the Celebrate Israel Parade Director and lay committee to increase fundraising capacity and grow committee membership
c. Manage outreach and solicitations of Grand Marshal and participate in process of selecting future Grand Marshals
d. Solicit sponsorship deals for the Parade and negotiate and secure signed agreements with potential sponsors as authorized by JCRC-NY
e. Create sponsorship sales materials to be presented to prospective sponsors
f. Use commercially reasonable efforts to obtain the interest of potential sponsors
g. Apprise JCRC-NY of potential sponsors and all sponsorship offers
h. Inform JCRC-NY and provide all appropriate contact information for purposes of transmitting sponsorship agreement for execution
i. Provide assistance to sponsors and JCRC-NY, including sponsor interaction and coordination assistance pre-Parade and on Parade Day, securing all creative approvals and other sponsor deliverables (i.e. floats, banners, signage, logo placement, flags, balloons, etc.)
j. Engage in other activities mutually agreed upon by the parties including, but not limited to, collaboration with any other independent consultant(s) engaged by JCRC-NY for the purpose of soliciting parade sponsors
k. Engage in conversations, create print and email solicitations, and carry out other efforts to secure individual contributions to support the Celebrate Israel ParadeGeneral Development
a. Responsible for portfolios consisting of institutional sponsors, parade or otherwise, and individual giving under $10,000, inclusive of, but not limited to, NextGen philanthropy
b. Liaise with Grants Manager on potential long-term funding when developing institutional sponsors
c. Engage and onboard new donors — mostly NextGen — and work with CDO on change management of donors giving under $10K
d. Assist Development Team, when possible, on gala fundraising
e. Oversee a standardized and timely donor stewardship process, inclusive of thank you notes, acknowledgment, tax letters and data management
f. Assist with additional projects, as needed, at direction of CDO
Requirements
• Demonstrated experience, success and progressive responsibility in fundraising with a minimum of 5 years of experience
• Ability to set goals strategically and oversee execution
• High level of discretion and ethical approach to fundraising
• Broad understanding of the Jewish communal landscape in the New York metropolitan area and familiarity with organizations promoting Israel, American companies doing business in Israel and Israeli companies doing business in New York
• Proven ability to interact and influence philanthropic leaders, corporate leaders and Jewish not-for-profit leaders
• Ability to work cross-functionally with various external constituents and vendors
• Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines
• Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
• Proficiency in database management (i.e. CRM), Microsoft Office Suite and other computer skills, as required
• Ability to design customized sponsorship packages and presentation materials
